Poncey-Highland Planning Update & Meeting Announcement
The Urban Design Commission (UDC) held a hearing on the eligibility of our Proposed Poncey-Highland Historic District on Wednesday, December 11 at 4 PM. After the presentation of the district, the UDC determined that they need more time to consider the information presented. As a result, they voted to defer the proposal to their January 8, 2020 meeting. For our neighborhood to have an additional opportunity to ask questions about the proposed district and the process, a discussion will begin at 8 PM, following the December PHNA General Meeting this Wednesday. Doug Young will be present. Information about the planning process can also be found on the PHNA website here. Please join us for this additional discussion.
Also, if you are interested in knowing how Poncey-Highland meets the historic and architectural eligibility requirements on which the Urban Design Commission bases it decision of eligibility, please read the designation report at this link on the City’s website: https://www.atlantaga.gov/home/showdocument?id=44135.
Election of 2020 PHNA Board of Directors
We will vote to elect the 2020 Board members for the Poncey-Highland Neighborhood Association. PHNA did not receive any nominations by email for the upcoming year. PH members may also nominate candidates at Wednesday’s meeting prior to the vote. Any uncontested officer positions will be voted on by simple show of hands. If there are any contested positions (due to a nomination during the meeting), the vote will be done by paper ballot.
The recommended candidates are as follows:
Beth McDonald – President
Malory Atkinson – Vice President
Laura Coats – Secretary
Jeff Young – Treasurer
Lisa Malaney - Land Use Chair
Ed Haefner – NPU-N Representative
If you are not able to attend the meeting in person to cast your vote, you can email your vote to a current Board member.
The election of 2020 PHNA Board of Directors will be held on Wednesday, December 18 at our general monthly meeting. The process is as follows (as shared in November):
The positions are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, NPU-N representative, and Land Use Committee Chairperson.
The current PHNA board will serve as the nominating committee, in the interest of making best use of the time of volunteers.
Any Poncey-Highland member may nominate someone else or themselves for these positions. Please submit any nominations to board@ponceyhighland.org no later than Dec. 9 so they can be added to the ballot. Anyone nominated must be a full-time resident of Poncey-Highland and give consent to having their name included in the list of candidates.
PHNA will provide the neighborhood the names of ALL nominees and the names of its recommended candidates prior to the December 18th meeting.
On Dec. 18, at the December General Meeting the neighborhood will vote on the slate. PH members may also nominate candidates at the Dec. 18 meeting prior to the vote.
Hulsey Yard Master Plan
The large railroad yard owned by CSX is currently for sale. It is bordered by Cabbagetown, Inman Park, O4W & Reynoldstown. These four neighborhoods collectively worked with Lord Aeck Sargent to create a master plan to help direct future development on this land, even though master plans are not enforceable by the neighborhoods or by the City. In order to be adopted by the City of Atlanta, the Hulsey Yard Master Plan must be recommended for approval by NPU-N. After a discussion at Wednesday’s general meeting, our neighborhood will send our comments to the NPU-N meeting through Cory Atkinson, our NPU-N representative. Please read more about the master plan and direct any questions in advance to Cory.
