EFFECTIVE DATES FOR NEW ATLANTA CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES
ATLANTA – The U.S. Department of Justice has approved the City of Atlanta’s newly drawn Council District boundary lines adopted by Ordinance 11-O-1827. This action concludes the “City’s 2011/2012 Redistricting Process”. Citizens should note that the new district boundaries are effective for various purposes and dates as follows:
For 2013 General Election Candidates
Any candidate for election to an Atlanta City Council district or at-large seat must be a continuous resident of the City of Atlanta and of the particular district or, of one of four required districts (in the case of an at-large seat), for at least one year immediately preceding August 26, August 27, August 28, August 29 or August 30, 2013; * (the dates which a person seeking office shall qualify to seek office by filing a notice of candidacy with the Municipal Clerk.)
For 2013 General Election Voters
All registered voters electing City Council District representatives will vote in the newly drawn Council Districts during the City of Atlanta General Election held on November 5, 2013; and in any required General Run-off Election held on December 4, 2013.
For Citizen Representation
The newly drawn Council Districts will become effective on January 1, 2014.
*Based on the Atlanta Board of Education’s current Charter, the same requirements apply to candidates for the Atlanta Board of Education district and at-large seats.
